Earlier this month, upon finishing the book “Hot Flat and Crowded” by Thomas Friedman, I was pretty depressed. Mr. Friedman has a woefully realistic view on the need for change being driven by legislation, then enforced and innovated by all the rest of us. At the same time, he pokes a bit of fun at the “25 Easy Things You Can Do To Save the Planet” lists, noting that saving the planet is not easy and while the tiny things we each do, do make a difference, they do not change our course or our attitudes.
So I talked to my friend Robert Stockham over at Great Lakes Design Collaborative (an architecture firm) who runs a blogĀ about sustainability. He always posts interesting things worth a read and rss subscription.
He responded with a great post about some of the things we can do as individuals that go beyond changing a light bulb. I was especially excited about the first item on his list. The holidays came and left a new wave of crap in my house (excuse my French but we are Studio Graphique!) and it would be a great first, hard step to keep it from leaving the store in the first place.
Give it a read and let us both know what you think!
